Personal Introduction

About Me

I was born and raised in Northern California. I am a third-generation educator in rural Northern California. I lived in Boston, San Francisco, and Reno before returning back to my hometown, Chico to serve the communities that have made me who I am.

Levity

I bring insightful humor to my interactions inside and outside the classroom. I enjoy collecting, curating, and creating memes. I find that students feel a sense of accomplishment at the end of a lesson when I can share a content-specific joke and they understand what makes it funny.

Interests

In 2018 my brother found a mange- and worm-ridden 7lb chupacabra in a ditch and I named her Perdita. In my free time I enjoy playing with her (B-A-L-L) and playing video games. I also like to camp and off-road in my classic Ford Bronco.

6-7

My mentor teacher and I successfully got our students to stop saying "six-seven" by using it to death in the classroom. For spirit week, we made matching 6 (square root of 36) and 7 (square root of 49) t-shirts!

Computer Science Memes

At the end of each lecture for my Introduction to Programming course at Butte College I would find or make a meme about the topic discussed. In this case, after a lecture on variables, statements, and declarations, I declared a string variable "independence," or a Declaration of Independence.

Vocabulary

I stay ahead of students' slang and use it when they least expect it. Students appreciate it when I'm "cringe" and it helps me build relationships using their own words.
